About
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children and
youth of our community with safe, quality mentoring relationships with
volunteer mentors of good character. Serving as role models, Big Brothers Big
Sisters mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of
staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community.
Big Brother/Big Sister (18 years of age or
older)
- Volunteers play an active role in choosing the
right Little Brother/Sister for them to ensure a mutually enjoyable
relationships. - Volunteers are required to spend 3-4 hours a
week with a Little Brother or Sisters
Big Bunch (18 years of age or older)
- Adult female volunteer who are matched with 2
girls from a waiting list who meet together to have fun every second week for 6
months.
The agency's In-School Mentoring program is a
co-operative effort with area schools, matching men and women with boys and
girls for an hour a week during the elementary school term.
Game On!
- A mentoring program for male adolescents.
Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating
strategies, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and
emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of
life-long healthy lifestyles. Two male young adults devote 1.5 hours per week
over a 7 week period in the school for each program delivered, plus preparation
time.
Go Girls
- A mentoring program for female adolescents
promoting active living, balanced eating and feeling good. To provide adolescent
girls with information and support to make informed choices about healthy,
active living while maintaining sensitivity toward the emotional, social and
cultural issues they may face. Two female young adults devote 1.5 hours per
week over a 7 week period in the school for each program delivered, plus
preparation time.
